Overview of MIS Careers

Business computing is a growing and rapidly changing field offering many employment opportunities and a wide variety of career paths. Many graduates prefer careers with large companies in which MIS graduates find jobs as programmers, systems analysts, database administrators, microcomputer managers, information center consultants, and network administrators. The consulting firms, including Accenture, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and Ernst & Young, recruit MIS students to work as management information systems consultants. Computer manufacturers and software companies hire graduates to analyze client business requirements and provide technical support for salespeople. MIS graduates working at smaller companies have the widest range of career opportunities, working as system managers, network managers, data processing managers, or as expert end-users in departments outside of data processing.

MIS graduates have chosen careers with some of the best organizations in the world including: IBM, Xerox, Dow Chemical, General Electric, Bank One, The Limited, Accenture, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Arthur Andersen, Ernst & Young, Midland Insurance, First Union, EDS, Fifth Third Bank, Nationwide Insurance, the U.S Air Force, The State of Ohio, the Defense Logistics Agency, and the CIA.
